Fuel for Summer

There are nearly 500,000 K through 12 students in San Diego County, and over 240,000 of those students rely on free or reduced-price meals while in school. That means almost 50% of San Diego County students lose access to nutritious meals in the summer months.

Help ensure children have the fuel they need.

Fuel for Summer Logo

Fuel for Summer aims to fill the gaps so children can enjoy their summers rather than worry about their next meal. During the summer, Feeding San Diego partners with libraries, recreation centers, and schools across the county to host sites where families can receive free groceries and meals all summer. We need your help to support critical summer food distributions throughout the county. All children deserve to have the nutrition they need to grow and thrive over the summer months and beyond.

Ways to Get Involved During Fuel for Summer

This summer, bring your kids in for a volunteer shift! At our distribution center, parents and kids ages six and older can donate their time to help glean, sort, and pack food that will be distributed to San Diegans facing hunger.

It’s good to know that there are resources like this available because it does help. I think every little bit helps.

“We just moved here in August. We moved from Idaho and my husband is injured medically, so he hasn’t been working for two months, so things have been challenging lately. It’s expensive to live in California. It’s good to know that there are resources like this available because it does help. I think every little bit helps. Every dollar, every penny, it all adds up. I think it’s amazing what you guys are doing to help the community. And it reduces landfill waste. Thank you very much for being thoughtful and generous.”
