Fuel for Summer
There are nearly 500,000 K through 12 students in San Diego County, and over 240,000 of those students rely on free or reduced-price meals while in school. That means almost 50% of San Diego County students lose access to nutritious meals in the summer months.
Help ensure children have the fuel they need.

Fuel for Summer aims to fill the gaps so children can enjoy their summers rather than worry about their next meal. During the summer, Feeding San Diego partners with libraries, recreation centers, and schools across the county to host sites where families can receive free groceries and meals all summer. We need your help to support critical summer food distributions throughout the county. All children deserve to have the nutrition they need to grow and thrive over the summer months and beyond.

To come here helps a lot. It shows that people care and that there are people that understand that it’s not always so easy for active-duty military.
“Serving in the military, you get to meet people that you wouldn’t normally meet, like outside the Marine Corps. You meet people from all over. Different experiences, different lifestyles. But even receiving Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) and everything like that, the cost out here, in my eyes, is really expensive. A gallon of milk is way more than I’ve seen anywhere else. With working here on base, for my job, I’m required to bring my food to work. You have to prepare all that beforehand. Even buying groceries to do that, it’s a lot of money. I just had a baby, and it’s been ok. It would be a lot worse if I didn’t have a lot of people at work that cared about me. It helps out. I don’t have any family here, but my workspace is really family-oriented. A lot of them have kids, so they know how hard it is. To come here helps a lot. It shows that people care and that there are people that understand that it’s not always so easy for active-duty military. When you calculate it all, and you see how much you’re actually getting paid, it’s not that much. What I got today helps out tremendously. Thank you, it’s great that there are people out there that donate.”
