SAN DIEGO (April 24, 2020) — “Feeding San Diego has distributed over 2.5 million meals since the start of the COVID-19 crisis. We appreciate the USDA’s announcement of $3 billion in food purchases expected to be provided through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) to people in need. The program is expected to provide $100 million in dairy, produce, and meat a month through food banks and nonprofits nationwide. With the release of the solicitation by USDA today, Feeding San Diego calls on distributors interested in submitting a bid to partner with our network to make this program a success.
“Feeding San Diego is part of the fabric of our community and feeding neighbors in need is a shared responsibility. Right now we have a significantly increased need as COVID-19 impacts our community. The additional food provided through this innovative USDA program is critically needed to assist in our efforts to feed the community. Feeding San Diego has the logistics, food safety, and distribution expertise to make sure that this nutritious perishable food safely makes it into the hands of our neighbors that need it.
“We urge all companies interested in this USDA opportunity to partner with our network. Collectively, the Feeding America network of food banks serves every county in the United States supplying food to 60,000 charitable food assistance programs and serving millions of residents per year. In our community and in others, we will work to ensure that the food provided reaches every community in need.”
