School Pantry Survey Results: Healthy Food Making a Difference
Feeding San Diego regularly conducts client surveys to evaluate the impact of our programs and to help guide plans for their ongoing improvement.
This fall, we asked clients at eight School Pantry sites to answer a survey that included questions like:
- After receiving food from FSD, how often did anyone in your family have to skip a meal?
- Since receiving food from FSD, does your family eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains?
- Since receiving food from FSD, does your family prepare more meals at home?
With survey results in, we found that after receiving food from FSD, 67 percent of responding clients reported no longer having to skip a meal. We also found that 95 percent of responding clients reported eating more fruits, vegetables and whole grains and 88 percent report preparing more meals at home.
In the open response portion of the survey, one client shared, “I like the School Pantry because they give me groceries that I am not able to purchase.”
Another client shared her gratitude for healthy food items, stating, “We appreciate the help because when we’re given nutritious food and are able to eat better.”
Survey results like these are beneficial for FSD as we continue to strengthen our programs with direct input from those we serve. We are happy to see our School Pantry program making a difference for children and families facing hunger.
