Do you ever wonder what happens to all the unsold food at Starbucks stores across the country? In San Diego County and across the country, it feeds those facing hunger! Through an innovative partnership with Feeding America®hunger-relief organizations and partner agencies throughout the U.S. receive surplus food from Starbucks stores.

Feeding San Diego became the first hunger-relief organization to join the Starbucks FoodShare Program in 2016. Since then, we have rescued more than 3 million pounds of surplus food from local Starbucks stores. This food goes directly to children and families facing hunger in our community.

The Journey of a Starbucks FoodShare Program Box

One hundred percent of Starbucks company-operated stores in the U.S. are participating in the FoodShare program. The program is simple.

First, employees package up surplus food at the end of the day. Then, our partner Penske picks up the donations from Starbucks stores and delivers them to Feeding San Diego. The donated food is distributed to the community at food pantries and other distribution sites around the county.
