Summer Meals

Providing Healthy Meals for Kids

Nearly 50 percent of K-12 students in San Diego County rely on free or reduced-price meals. Many families struggle to ensure that there is enough food at home for their growing kids. Feeding San Diego’s youth meals programs, including summer meals, help fill the gap for families in need.

A range of locations host these meal distributions during the summer, including after-school programs, libraries, and rec centers.

Summer Meals

When school closes for the summer, many students lose access to the nutritious food they need to thrive. Instead of enjoying summer fun, families face tighter budgets without school meals to sustain them.

Our summer meals program helps meet the needs of kids and families during summer vacation. As part of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), Feeding San Diego provides breakfast, lunch, and snack as meal options to youth ages 18 and under.

Stories from Our Youth Meals Sites

I like coming here for the food. I always know there’s going to be good food and it makes me happy. The chicken wraps are really good. I really appreciate non-profit organizations and the people who help them because without them, the program wouldn’t start and the food wouldn’t come in, kids wouldn’t be as fueled or have energy to play or do their homework.
