Amphitheatre parking lot will host a monthly food distribution for thousands of households

With soaring inflation and high cost of living continuing to create challenges for San Diegans, Feeding San Diego is continuing its large-scale monthly food distribution at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre with the support of Live Nation, the operator of the venue. Feeding San Diego, the county’s leading hunger-relief and food rescue organization, has operated a drive-through food distribution at the venue since March 2021 that has served more than 19,000 households to date. The organization has consistently seen high demand at its South Bay food distribution sites and is thankful for the venue’s support to keep this distribution going indefinitely.

“These large-scale food distributions are a lifeline to many in our community” said Bob Kamensky, chief strategy officer of Feeding San Diego. “We have consistently seen that there is a need for food assistance in Chula Vista, so we will continue our efforts to support the community by operating distributions that are open to anyone in need once a month.”

Large-scale distributions, which Feeding San Diego began operating at the onset of the pandemic as an emergency response, require the non-profit to recruit up to 45 volunteers per distribution to operate safely. The distribution at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre regularly sees upwards of 1,500 cars drive through seeking out food assistance in the form of dry goods, fresh produce, and occasionally a frozen meat protein. With the support of the venue providing the parking lot at no cost, the non-profit can continue to provide resources to the Chula Vista community.

“Feeding San Diego provides vital services for San Diegans and we’re proud to continue our partnership with them to continue bringing distribution events to our community,” said Andrew McDonald, general manager of North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre. “All of our team members are passionate about this cause and doing our part to support those facing food insecurity.”

The monthly distributions at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre will be on varying dates and will be announced on Feeding San Diego’s website. The next distribution is tomorrow, Friday, January 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with additional dates confirmed for Friday, February 17; Friday, March 17; and Friday, April 21. North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre is located at 2050 Entertainment Circle in Chula Vista.
