Giving Tuesday Telethon Raises Money to Fight Hunger

Feeding San Diego and ABC 10 News have partnered up again this holiday season for a Month of a Million Meals.  This campaign aims to fundraise one million meals for people facing hunger in San Diego.  On Giving Tuesday, ABC 10 News hosted a telethon with Feeding San Diego.

Giving Tuesday is the nation’s single largest day of charitable giving across the United States. With the help of local celebrities and employees from both ABC 10 News and Feeding San Diego; people all across the community called in to donate to fight hunger.

Local celebrities volunteered to take calls including Top Chef Angelo Sosa and Master Chef Nick Nappi. Former San Diego Charger, Tim Dwight, Padres great Mark Loretta, and Tommy Gomes the Fish Monger all stopped by as well to help fight hunger. We even had the San Diego Chicken, the Padres Friar, and Chopper the Biker Dog in the house!

Switchfoot Bro-Am, Perfect Bar, Naked Café, and Scripps Howard Foundation also made generous donations at the telethon to support our mission of a healthy and hunger-free San Diego.

Through the telethon, we were able to raise 373,120 meals! While we were just short of our goal of 400,000 meals, it was great progress towards our main goal of one million meals. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped those facing hunger in San Diego every day.
