Feeding San Diego Sees Double-Digit Increase in Attendance at its Together Tour Food Distributions Across San Diego County

Feeding San Diego, the county’s leading hunger-relief and food rescue non-profit, continues to see high numbers of San Diegans turning out for its Together Tour drive through food distributions held throughout San Diego County. In April, the non-profit operated 12 distribution sites in cities including Spring Valley, Escondido, and Chula Vista, and saw the highest number of households served since December 2021, likely because of continued record-high inflation.
“Since July of last year, we have distributed food to more than 57,000 households just through the Together Tour distributions,” said Bob Kamensky, Chief Strategy Officer at Feeding San Diego. “The numbers have fluctuated every month, going from 3,000 families in July 2021 to over 8,000 this past month, a sign of the ups and downs that continue to impact San Diegans. It’s a privilege to continue to operate these distributions to provide a much-needed resource to the community.”
The Together Tour started in February 2021 in response to the economic fallout from the pandemic and has continued well into 2022 due to continued economic hardship as evidenced by attendance numbers growing and remaining high. Since last February, over 300,000 individuals have been served and over 4.3 million pounds of food have been distributed. The sites with the highest turnout, usually with over 1,000 households pre-registered, are in the South Bay at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre and Southwestern College.
This month marks 15 years of Feeding San Diego, and the non-profit has distributed over 300 million meals throughout San Diego County since 2007. Through firestorms, a global pandemic, and record-high inflation the organization has established itself as an essential service for San Diegans who rely on food assistance, which include families, seniors, military families, and college students. In addition to the Together Tour, Feeding San Diego provides food six days a week to nearly 300 community partners located across San Diego County to serve San Diegans facing hunger.
The next Together Tour food distribution is tomorrow from 10 AM to 12 PM at Pechanga Arena and there is another on Friday, May 13 from 10 AM to 12 PM in Fallbrook. To see a list of all dates and times and to register, visit feedingsandiego.org/together-tour.
