Feeding San Diego Responds to Those Affected By Fires

After the Lilac Fire in north San Diego County, homes and over 150 other structures were burned to the ground. The fire lasted for nearly ten days before officials could contain the inferno.

Before the flames were extinguished, the fire displaced an estimated 10,000 residents, cut off power to 20,000 people and burned over 4,000 acres.

This left many families without places to live or food to eat.

Feeding San Diego immediately went mobile. By adding additional food distributions, increasing supply around the evacuation area, and redirecting resources, Feeding San Diego provided much-needed help to those in need.

After the fire damage was assessed, the federal government-administered Disaster-SNAP was launched in areas impacted by the San Diego fires. This vital program gives food assistance to those heavily impacted by natural disasters.

To raise awareness about Disaster SNAP, Feeding San Diego distributed fliers and spoke with those coming to distributions in Oceanside, Bonsall, and other north county food pantries to help them access this relief program.
