Feeding San Diego joins #GivingTuesdayNow in global day of giving to support the urgent need for food assistance across San Diego County
FEEDING SAN DIEGO JOINS #GIVINGTUESDAYNOW IN GLOBAL DAY OF GIVING TO SUPPORT THE URGENT NEED FOR FOOD ASSISTANCE ACROSS SAN DIEGO COUNTY
3.5 million meals distributed since March 14, 2020
San Diego (May 5, 2020) — Feeding San Diego joins the #GivingTuesdayNow movement today — a day dedicated to generosity and caring in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. With one in six people in San Diego now facing hunger due to the coronavirus pandemic, hundreds of thousands of people across San Diego County are in need of food assistance, many for the first time, and will continue to need help for the weeks and months to come.
Feeding San Diego urges the community to help support its #GivingTuesdayNow campaign in response to the urgent need for food assistance by children, families, seniors and underserved populations across San Diego County. All gifts will support the Feeding San Diego COVID-19 Response Fund. Donations can be made by visiting: give.feedingsandiego.org.
In addition to raising funds, Feeding San Diego is hosting an Instagram live event, #GivingTuesdayNow Progressive Dinner Party, on Tuesday, May 5, from 6:00 to 6:30 PM, led by Food Network host and Feeding San Diego Entertainment Council Member Troy Johnson. Chef JoJo Ruiz of Lionfish and Serẽa, Bravo Top Chef Angelo Sosa of Small Barn Temecula, and Bravo Top Chef and Restauranteur Brian Malarkey will each cook and share an amazing Cinco de Mayo inspired dish in honor of Feeding San Diego.
Feeding San Diego continues to respond to the meet the needs of people facing hunger in San Diego County. Since March 14, the hunger-relief organization distributed more than 3.5 million meals. As the need for food assistance and food purchasing costs continue to increase dramatically, Feeding San Diego seeks support from the community to sustain its emergency response efforts, including drivethrough distributions, emergency regional food distributions, rural mobile pantries, and youth meal sites.
