FEEDING SAN DIEGO ACHIEVES RECORD-BREAKING SUCCESS BY RAISING OVER FIVE MILLION MEALS FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES FACING HUNGER

San Diego, CA — January 16, 2020 — Feeding San Diego announced today that $1,402,895, equating to 5,611,583 meals, was raised during the seventh annual Month of a Million Meals campaign in partnership with ABC 10News. Exceeding the goal by 1.6 million meals, the campaign ran from November 18 to December 31, 2019, and brought the community together to solve hunger through generous donations of funds, time, food and voice. One in eight people, including one in six children, struggle with hunger in San Diego County while 40 percent of all food produced is wasted.

“Feeding San Diego is grateful to all of those who helped make this a record-breaking year for Month of a Million Meals. We exceeded our ambitious goal of raising four million meals thanks to the generosity of countless donors and corporate partners, including Bob and Marion Wilson, the Epstein Family Foundation, Barons Market, and Intercontinental Coffee Trading,” said Vince Hall, CEO of Feeding San Diego. “We are inspired by the outpouring of support from the community to help us end hunger through food rescue.”

“ABC 10News is so proud of the efforts of our viewers and our community at large. Once again they showed a level of caring that is unmatched anywhere,” said Leon Clark, Vice President and General Manager at KGTV, ABC 10News. “The work that Feeding San Diego does is remarkable, and I am so happy that we are able in some small way to be a part of their effort to eradicate hunger in San Diego.”

The campaign kicked off with a successful four-hour telethon on #GivingTuesday, broadcasted live by ABC 10News, featuring local celebrities, news anchors, chefs, firefighters, and athletes to unite the community in the fight against hunger. Guests included Bravo Top Chef Angelo Sosa, Master Chef Claudia Sandavol, Drew Shirley from Grammy award-winning band Switchfoot, and former Padres star Mark Loretta, along with many others. Bob and Marion Wilson matched all telethon donations.
