Feeding Neighbors, Not Landfills: Retail Rescue Program

Published On: February 26th, 2019By Categories: Resources1 min read

One in six children in San Diego County face hunger every single day — more than 127,000 of our neighbors. At the same time, 40 percent of perfectly good food in San Diego County goes to waste.

The Feeding San Diego Retail Rescue program helps end this cycle of waste. We pair local grocery stores and food distributors looking to donate their extra food with community organizations who have the capacity to distribute this food to people experiencing hunger. These partnerships give healthy meals to San Diegans in need while diverting food from the waste stream.

Generous community support of our innovative distribution model makes these services possible.

Special Matching Opportunity for New Donors

Through February 28, Feeding San Diego has a special opportunity for new donors! The Parker Foundation has committed a $20,000 challenge match toward our Retail Rescue program. We need your help to reach our goal!

If you’ve not had the chance to give before, this is a great chance to double your impact and help provide twice as many healthy meals to our neighbors in need.

Make your gift today and become a partner in our mission!
