Feeding San Diego Begins New Partnership to Serve More Seniors

In San Diego, 10 percent of those served by Feeding San Diego partner agencies, or approximately 5,000 individuals each week, are over the age of 60.

FSD addresses this need by providing healthy meals to food-insecure seniors in San Diego County through strategic partnerships – including a new one that began last month.

Since 2002, the Fourth District Seniors Resource Center (FDSRC) has worked to enhance and embrace the quality of life for their community by providing a wholesome and safe environment for them to thrive, while assisting them to live more independently and proactively. They provide quality services to the district’s low-to-moderate-income seniors and their families through a variety of resources, including serving nutritious congregate and take-out meals daily.

Beginning in April 2016, FSD began partnering with FDSRC to provide access to food at a low cost so they can continue to serve these meals in a sustainable way. In addition, we are now providing direct service to help the organization host a grocery distribution for approximately 100-150 seniors each month.

We are proud of this new partnership and look forward to seeing the difference it makes in the lives of the seniors we serve together.
