CalFresh Team & Community Partners Recognized for Streamlined Program
In partnership with the San Diego Hunger Coalition, San Diego County and community partners, FSD provides monthly same day CalFresh services where clients can receive their CalFresh benefits the same day they apply. On April 15, KPBS visited the workshop at the Third Avenue Charitable Organization and conducted interviews with clients and staff on the benefits of FSD’s same day CalFresh Workshop model. Their hard work and dedication was then recognized in a KPBS segment featuring the success of this program. You can see KPBS article and coverage here.
FSD’s same day CalFresh services were started to assist the county with enrolling hard-to-reach San Diegans — those with no mailboxes, phones, or transportation — to receive their EBT cards as quickly and easily as possible. By bringing services to the community, FSD aims to eliminate barriers to CalFresh enrollment for those who are eligible. For the past couple of months, this assistance has been offered at the Third Avenue Charitable Organization along with two other locations, one in Oceanside and one in Pacific Beach, on a rotating basis. By accessing these services, individuals are able to receive their EBT card within hours of applying to increase their food budget and purchase nutritious food.
