August is National Make-a-Will Month: Write to end hunger now!

Did you know that 35% of food produced in the United States is wasted and that nearly 70% of adults in our country do not have a will? August is National Make-a-Will Month, and we’re excited to bring planned giving into the modern era. We have a new creative and easy way you can lower both of these statistics.

Feeding San Diego has partnered with FreeWill: a free online tool that guides you through the process of writing or updating your will in 20 minutes or less. Our stakeholders have helped us connect people facing hunger with nutritious meals. Now, we want to connect our stakeholders with a resource that can protect the important people in their own lives. No matter how old you are and regardless of how much wealth you possess, writing a will secures your future and protects the causes and people you love most. Get started now.

FreeWill can also help you plan beneficiaries for assets that may not be included in your will. If you prefer to finalize your plans with an attorney, you can use this resource to record your wishes first, and save on legal expenses. This resource is accessible and easy to use on your own time.

While you are making your will, you will have the opportunity to make a planned gift to Feeding San Diego. This ensures that together, we can maximize food rescue for years to come. Including a gift in your will allows you to build a legacy dedicated to a hunger-free and healthy San Diego. It’s the perfect time to write your will while reducing food waste in our community. Get started today.
