Assemblymember Brian Maienschein to Present $500,000 Check to Feeding San Diego on September 22
Funds from 2021-22 state budget to be given to the non-profit at its distribution center in Sorrento Valley
Feeding San Diego, the county’s leading hunger-relief and food rescue non-profit, will receive a visit from Assemblymember Brian Maienschein during Hunger Action Month to present a $500,000 check from the 2021-22 California state budget.
WHO: Assemblymember Brian Maienschein and Feeding San Diego CEO Dan Shea
WHAT: In July 2021, it was announced that Assemblymember Maienschein had brought $1.4 million from the budget to five public service organizations and projects in the 77th Assembly District. Feeding San Diego is one of those organizations. Feeding San Diego will receive $500,000 for the purchase of much-needed equipment to continue operations, which include rescuing food from food donors throughout San Diego County and connecting it with community partners—faith-based organizations, schools, other nonprofits—who distribute it to those they serve. Feeding San Diego also hosts its own food distributions across the county, including its Together Tour series of large-scale food distributions that started in February 2021 as a response to the ongoing elevated need caused by the pandemic and has now distributed over one million pounds of food out into the community.
WHEN: Wednesday, September 22 at 10:30 AM; press event will be about 15 minutes with opportunity for Q&A and photo ops following remarks from both Assemblymember Brian Maienschein and Feeding San Diego CEO Dan Shea.
WHERE: Feeding San Diego, 9477 Waples St., Ste. 100 San Diego, CA 92121
