Director of Operations

Jim Allsopp oversees fleet management, distribution, warehousing, facilities, and equipment in his role as director of operations at Feeding San Diego. Day to day, he is responsible for the nonprofit’s fleet of 30 vehicles including 14 box trucks, 11 vans and five tractor-trailers, including those used by partner agencies, the 15,000 square-foot warehouse, and the more than 23.4 million pounds of food that moves through it each year. Jim and his team work cross departmentally with the programs and supply chain team to orchestrate an average of 447 deliveries and 46 pickups every month, ensuring that needs are met for both partner organizations and the people in San Diego County who rely on food assistance.  

Jim joined Feeding San Diego in 2019, bringing 40 years of logistics, operations and quality management experience in the international and domestic transportation and relocation industry. As director of business development and a transportation manager at Corovan, Jim managed business development across five Southern California counties and led transportation and logistics operations for a 100,000-square-foot distribution facility. Jim has also served as a manager at Atlas World Group, Zippy Shell and Berger Allied Moving and Storage. 

Jim believes effective management of risk and assets – especially people, whom he considers the most valuable asset – is essential to operational success. This is why he says he enjoys mentoring his team of 9 with practical, real-time feedback and guidance. As he nears retirement, his goal is to train his successor or “the next generation’s director of operations” from within Feeding San Diego. 

A retired ordained minister, Jim says helping people has been a key motivator throughout his life and is why he was drawn to joining Feeding San Diego. 

Jim graduated high school in Arroyo Grande, California, and has lived in San Diego for more than 18 years.  

Twice a month, Jim spends his free time playing a standing game of golf with friends. He’s taken his passion for the sport a step further in recent years, travelling to golf courses that host professional tournaments. To date he has played on 20, including Pebble Beach, Torrey Pines, the Riviera Club in Los Angeles, and the Olympic Club in San Francisco.
