Thank you to Summer 2016 AmeriCorps VISTAs

For the past eight weeks, Feeding San Diego hosted three summer AmeriCorps VISTA members, Danielle, Justin and Lisa, who have been instrumental in reaching individuals for CalFresh assistance and daily support of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).

Through Danielle and Justin’s work with CalFresh outreach and application assistance every day out in the community, 1,513 individuals were prescreened for CalFresh eligibility and 99 people submitted applications. Thus far, more than $238,000 worth of benefits for families have been awarded and more than half of the cases are still in the approval process.

Lisa’s work helped provide more than 12,000 meals and 6,000 snacks over the summer to kids who wouldn’t have gotten a meal otherwise.

Without their hard work for this short time, we would not have been able to reach as many families facing hunger this summer. A huge thank you to Justin, Danielle and Lisa for their dedication to our mission and, more importantly, the families in San Diego!
