How the Starbucks FoodShare Program Works

Do you ever wonder what happens to all the unsold food at Starbucks stores? In San Diego County and across the country, it feeds those facing hunger! Through an innovative partnership with Feeding America®, hunger-relief organizations and partner agencies throughout the U.S. receive surplus food from Starbucks stores.
Feeding San Diego became the first hunger-relief organization to join the Starbucks FoodShare Program in 2016. This food goes directly to children and families facing hunger in our community.

One hundred percent of Starbucks company-operated stores in the U.S. are participating in the FoodShare program.
Employees package up surplus food at the end of the day. Then, in San Diego, our partner Penske picks up the donations from Starbucks stores and delivers them to Feeding San Diego. The donated food is distributed to the community at food pantries and other distribution sites around the county.
