PURPOSE:

This Privacy Policy articulates the principles, actions and beliefs of Feeding San Diego (“FSD,” “we,” or “us”) with regard to the following information collected, retained and used by FSD:

  1. Personal information that you submit or that we collect through our website at https://feedingsandiego.org/ and other websites we operate from which you are accessing this Privacy Policy (collectively, the “Sites”) and HTML-formatted email messages or other communications that we send to you.
  2. Personal information that you submit or that we collect through our social media pages located at https://www.facebook.com/feedingsandiego, https://twitter.com/FeedingSanDiego/, https://www.linkedin.com/company/feeding-san-diego/, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCa8X09ZF4JCYGuxoiwaxRpA, and https://www.instagram.com/feedingsandiego/ (collectively, our “Social Media Pages”);
  3. Personal information obtained from donors, volunteers, and prospective donors or volunteers, including through pledge cards, letters, surveys, applications, and other forms, in writing, in person, by telephone, or electronically (e.g. name, address, employer, birth date, payment card data, family members, interests, etc.). Personal information may also be retained about present and past history of donations, volunteer service, committee service and any other interaction an individual may have with FSD.
  4. Personal Information received from our partner organizations, such as Feeding America, and our third-party data cooperatives and marketing partners.

OUR PRIVACY PRACTICES:

Types of Personal Information Collected

Personal Information” is information that identifies you as an individual or relates to an identifiable individual.  We may collect Personal Information such as your name, mailing address, email address, and telephone number, as well as Personal Information you voluntarily submit to us via our Sites or Social Media Pages, including Personal Information that may be contained in photos, videos, audio recordings, testimonials, or stories.  Our Site also collects IP addresses of users, which we may use to derive the user’s approximate location.

As discussed above, we may collect additional types of Personal Information from donors, volunteers, or prospective donors or volunteers, such as employer, birth date, payment card data, financial data, family members, and interests. We may also collect Personal Information from our partner organizations, like Feeding America, and our third-party data cooperatives and marketing partners, such as information relating to your past purchases and donation history, as well as financial data.

In addition, if you use social media logins (like Google and Facebook) to log into our website, we may access your public social media profile information, such as your name, email address, photo, list of social media contacts, and any other information that may be or you make accessible to us when you use social media logins.

If you disclose any Personal Information relating to other people to us or to our service providers, you represent that you have the authority to do so and to permit us to use the information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Use and Disclosure of Personal Information

We and our service providers use Personal Information for the following types of purposes:

  • Communicating with you about FSD’s activities and opportunities to assist FSD;
  • Processing your donations to FSD and communicating with you about donation-related issues;
  • Coordinating your volunteer activities on behalf of FSD;
  • Responding to your inquiries and fulfilling your requests, such as when you send us questions or requests;
  • Aggregating and/or de-identifying Personal Information to create data that no longer identifies you or any other individual;
  • Analyzing and improving the operation and effectiveness of FSD, such as by performing data analysis, performing audits, improving our Site, assessing and enhancing our outreach activities, determining the effectiveness of fundraising campaigns, and operating and expanding our activities as a nonprofit.

We may share Personal Information with our third-party service providers, to facilitate services they provide to us.  We also may publicly recognize you as a donor, or otherwise use your Personal Information or other content that you voluntarily submit to us via our Sites or Social Media Pages, for referral, testimonial, example, or publicity purposes, but only with your permission.

We may also use and disclose your Personal Information as we believe to be necessary or appropriate: (a) to comply with applicable law, to respond to requests from public and government authorities, to cooperate with law enforcement, or for other legal reasons; (b) to enforce our terms and conditions; and (c) to protect our rights, privacy, safety or property, and/or that of our affiliates, you, or others. We may use, disclose or transfer your information to a third party in the event of any reorganization, merger, assignment, transfer or other disposition of all or any portion of our assets, such as if we combine with another nonprofit organization or transfer assets to another nonprofit organization.

Additionally, we may share Personal Information with our partner organizations, such as Feeding America, third-party data cooperatives, and other marketers whose products or services may be of interest to you. If you prefer that we do not share your Personal Information with these data cooperatives or other marketers, you may opt out by contacting us in accordance with the “Contacting Us” section below.

Other Information

Other Information” is any information that does not reveal your specific identity or does not directly relate to an identifiable individual. Our Site collect Other Information such as:

  • Browser and device information
  • Information collected through cookies, pixel tags and other technologies
  • Demographic information and other information provided by you that does not reveal your specific identity
  • Information that has been aggregated in a manner such that it no longer reveals your specific identity

We and our service providers may collect Other Information in a variety of ways, including:

  • Your browser or device. Certain information is collected by most browsers or automatically through your device, such as your Media Access Control (MAC) address, computer type (Windows or Mac), screen resolution, operating system name and version, device manufacturer and model, language, and Internet browser type and version. We use this information to ensure that the Site functions properly.
  • Cookies are pieces of information stored directly on the computer that you are using. Cookies allow us to collect information such as browser type, time spent on the Site, pages visited, language preferences, and other traffic data. We and our service providers use the information for security purposes, to facilitate navigation, to display information more effectively, and to personalize your experience. We also gather statistical information about use of the Site in order to continually improve their design and functionality, understand how they are used, and assist us with resolving questions regarding them.   • Pixel tags and other similar technologies. Pixel tags (also known as web beacons and clear GIFs) may be used to, among other things, track the actions of users of the Site (including email recipients), measure the success of our promotional campaigns, and compile statistics about usage of the Site and response rates.
  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics, which uses cookies and similar technologies to collect and analyze information about use of the Site and report on activities and trends. This service may also collect information regarding the use of other websites, apps and online resources. We may use and disclose Other Information for any purpose, except where we are required to do otherwise under applicable law. If we are required to treat Other Information as Personal Information under applicable law, we may use and disclose it for the purposes for which we use and disclose Personal Information as detailed in this Policy. In some instances, we may combine Other Information with Personal Information. If we do, we will treat the combined information as Personal Information as long as it is combined.

Security

We seek to use reasonable organizational, technical and administrative measures to protect Personal Information within our organization. These include procedures to limit access to Personal Information to employees and volunteers who need to know such information in order to fulfill our mission, as well as education programs for our employees and volunteers about the importance of protecting the privacy and security of confidential personal and organizational information. Unfortunately, no data transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. If you have reason to believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure, please immediately notify us in accordance with the “Contacting Us” section below.

Removal from Mailing Lists

If you no longer want to receive promotional or fundraising postal mail from us on a going-forward basis, you may opt-out by writing, emailing or calling us at:

If you no longer want to receive promotional or fundraising emails from us on a going-forward basis, you may opt out by using the unsubscribe feature contained in each such email message.

We will try to comply with your request(s) as soon as reasonably practicable. Please note that if you opt out of receiving promotional or fundraising emails from us, we may still send you transactional messages or other important messages (such as receipts of donations).

Third-Party Services

This Privacy Policy does not address, and we are not responsible for, the privacy, information, or other practices of any third parties, including any third party operating any website or service to which the Site links. The inclusion of a link on the Site does not imply endorsement of the linked site or service by us or by our affiliates.

Third-Party Payment Service

The Site provides functionality allowing you to make payments and donations to FSD using a third-party payment service with which you have created your own account. When you use such a service to make a payment or donation to us, your Personal Information will be collected by such third party and not by us, and will be subject to the third party’s privacy policy, rather than this Privacy Policy. We have no control over, and are not responsible for, this third party’s collection, use, and disclosure of your Personal Information.

Third-Party Advertising  

We use third-party advertising companies to serve advertisements regarding goods and services that may be of interest to you when you access and use the Site and other websites or online services.

Updates to this Privacy Policy

This policy may be changed or updated from time to time. The “Last Updated” legend at the top of this Privacy Policy indicates when this Privacy Policy was last revised. Any changes will become effective when we post the revised Privacy Policy on the Site.
