Longtime Food Network personality Troy Johnson teams with wife to win primetime food trivia show, donate winnings to San Diego’s leading hunger-relief non-profit

On a recent episode of Guy’s Ultimate Game Night–a Food Network game show that puts a culinary twist on classic party games as celebrity contestants compete in front of a live studio audience for the chance to win prizes for their favorite charity–longtime Food Network judge Troy Johnson and his wife, Claire Johnson, not only chose to play for Feeding San Diego, but won the competition. They donated their $10,000 prize money to Feeding San Diego.

This donation will directly support the local Feeding America affiliate’s hunger-relief programming that provides nutritious meals to children, families, seniors, college students, military families, and veterans in partnership with a network of 370 local charities, schools, faith-based organizations, after-school programs, and food pantries.

“We are incredibly grateful to Troy and Claire for giving Feeding San Diego visibility on a national television show and for using their talents to support our mission of providing nutritious meals while maximizing food rescue,” said Ali Colbran, Director of Development at Feeding San Diego. “We are fortunate to have amazing supporters like Troy and Claire whose generosity is inspiring.”

Hosted by Guy Fieri and Chef Antonia Lofaso, Guy’s Ultimate Game Night has celebrities playing with food in the hands-on challenge and tests their culinary knowledge with trivia and word puzzles. In each episode, three celebrity teams compete in five rounds of games that are all about food. Johnson played alongside his wife, Claire Johnson, who is chief executive officer of San Diego Magazine. Troy Johnson is a regular judge on Guy’s Grocery Games alongside Fieri, and got in the game on Guy’s Ultimate Game Night to be able to give back.

“Feeding San Diego rescues healthy food that otherwise might go to waste and distributes it to people facing hunger,” said Johnson. “In 2019 the US wasted enough food to fill the Empire State Building 91 times (ninety-one is a lot). No one should go hungry. Feeding San Diego is helping stop that.”

“Last year Claire and I made the decision to invest in San Diego Magazine so that we could create something meaningful for our city and our community. This is that, and we’re humbled to do it.”

The episode is currently available to stream on Discovery+.
