Include Feeding San Diego in Your Legacy

Planned giving makes it easy to make a lasting impact and to extend your support for Feeding San Diego well into the future.

Start by learning the different gift options available to you. Whether you would like to put your donation to work today or benefit us after your lifetime, you can find a charitable plan that lets you support the causes you care about, including Feeding San Diego.

Updating my will via Freewill.com allowed me to not only get a new will but also gave me an opportunity to include Feeding San Diego in my legacy plan. Giving back is important to me, and I also like to support local organizations. Food is such a basic human need, and anything I can do to help nourish others aligns with who I am, so I am grateful to be able to do this.

Ways to Give

Income for Life: Understanding Charitable Gift Annuities

1. Gift of cash or assets 2. Income tax deduction and lifetime income 3. Remainder to us after your lifetime

A charitable gift annuity is a simple contract between you, Feeding San Diego, and Feeding America.

In exchange for your contribution of $10,000 or more, Feeding America agrees to make fixed income payments for life to you or a beneficiary of your choice.

The beneficiary must be at least 65 years old. After the beneficiary passes away, the remaining annuity value passes to Feeding San Diego.

How CGAs Work

  1. You transfer at least $10,000 in cash, publicly traded securities, or IRA assets to Feeding America and choose Feeding San Diego to receive the remaining principal.
  2. Feeding America sets up a charitable giving annuity for free.
  3. You receive an immediate tax deduction on a portion of the initial contribution.
  4. Feeding America commits to paying fixed payments to you or your chosen beneficiary for life. The payment amount depends on your age.
  5. You feel satisfaction knowing you will be helping end hunger in San Diego.

Benefits of a CGA

  • Your income is fixed and is not affected by market turbulence.
  • Income may be directed to you or a loved one.
  • The annuity may help to supplement your cash flow.
  • You may qualify for a tax-deductible donation for a portion of the contribution.
  • A portion of the income may be tax-free throughout your life expectancy.
  • You may receive a capital gains tax advantage if you fund the annuity with long-term appreciated assets.
  • The remainder will be used for the long-term benefit of the community.

Note: Younger donors may want to consider a deferred gift annuity.

By establishing a deferred charitable gift annuity, you can make a charitable contribution now but postpone receiving income until you are 65 or older.

If you are still working and do not need income now, a deferred annuity may help you supplement the payments that you receive from your qualified retirement plan and/or Social Security during your retirement.
