Feeding San Diego Holds Second Large-Scale Distribution at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista
High demand at first distribution last week prompted the organization to quickly return to the site to help San Diegans in need of food assistance
SAN DIEGO (April 8, 2021) — Tomorrow, Feeding San Diego will hold its second large-scale food distribution in the South Bay as part of its Together Tour, a series of large-scale distributions across San Diego County to make nutritious food more accessible to anyone who needs it. At the first distribution held at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre on Tuesday, March 30, more than 1,200 cars drove through the venue’s parking lot and almost 5,000 people were served. At the end of the two hours, the organization distributed over 60,000 pounds of food. Keeping the large-scale distributions ongoing will allow the organization to reach residents in cities hit hard by the pandemic, which includes Chula Vista and neighboring areas like Imperial Beach. Upcoming tour stops include Pechanga Arena San Diego and California State University, San Marcos.
“The demand that we saw at this distribution site last week showed us that we have a duty to return and keep up the support,” said Dan Shea, CEO of Feeding San Diego. “We are here and committed to supporting San Diegans during the recovery process. As our Together Tour would suggest, we are in this together.”

Feeding San Diego’s large-scale distributions are in addition to the hundreds of ongoing distributions held weekly, which can be found on Feeding San Diego’s Find Food Map. Many people are facing hunger for the first time and don’t know where to turn. One of the objectives of these emergency distributions is to empower people with the information they need to navigate this crisis over the long term.
