“I’m active-duty military, and we live in military housing. We learned about the pantry once we got our kid in school here. It is fantastic to be able to pick it up at a school that we visit every day. It helps us out a lot. We’re on a fixed budget, as everybody is. This helps out immensely, especially whenever we’re picking up fresh fruits and veggies for the kids. We’re spending close to $100 a week just on fresh fruits and veggies, and this helps out a lot.”

“I take care of my mom, and we’re both low income. I’ve cut back everything to make sure we pay all the bills. A lot of mom’s money goes towards the medication because she’s a diabetic and has heart problems. The people that supply the food, I don’t think they realize how much we appreciate it. I think they’re a godsend. It’s a relief and everybody’s always nice. They’re all so nice. With this, we don’t struggle as much which helps.”

“Coming to the pantry every week is a big thing. My parents are both immigrants, and it’s a big deal for them for me to be here at CSU San Marcos and for me to have moved out. The price increases on everything ever since the pandemic has been crazy for everyone living in the dorms. This is such a big deal for me to be able to come here and get free food. Programs like this should be more funded. It helps me out a lot, it helps my roommates out a lot, so I can only imagine what it does for the entire student population.”
