“We don’t qualify for food stamps. It’s a one-income household right now, so anything food-wise helps tremendously right now. It feels good that you guys are out here. It just feels really good. We go through food. We have two growing girls and it’s really hard to keep up with her snacks and lunches, and then also making dinner and breakfast, so anything helps. Thank you for the food. Thank you for your time, your energy, your support. It’s very greatly appreciated if people want to give back.”

“We’re sisters and neighbors here in the park. We take care of each other. We’re just 13 months apart. We were born in San Diego and raised in Vista. I’ve lived here for 32 years. The economy right now is really bad, so this helps. We share the food. We both live on social security. I worked 30 years for Pacific Telephone, and when I retired, I got $700 a month. Now it’s $824. Ever since they first started the food distribution, we’ve been coming.”

“Everything is expensive. It’s kind of crazy. No matter who you talk to, regardless of what rank they are, you hear about people struggling. Whether it’s daycare, buying groceries, paying for gas, or some people are paying $1,500 electric bills. Daycare is over $1,000 a week. It’s cheaper for her [my wife] not to work and be home with the kids rather than pay for daycare. We’ve gone to the food distribution on base a few times before. It’s very helpful, especially with five kids.”
