Every Gift in August is Matched!

With school starting back up, thousands of local children will return to class hungry. If you donate in August, a generous donor will double your gift, up to $50,000. Your contribution will help grow and support our school pantry program to ensure every child in San Diego County has the food they need to grow and learn.

Become a Monthly Donor & Double Your Impact

Nearly 400,000 San Diegans, including over 100,000 children, are food insecure. To help ensure every San Diegan has access to nutritious food, our friends at Chosen Foods are matching the gifts of every new monthly donor for the first three months up to $14,200.

“It helps people with low incomes. This is a big help for me and my family. There are five of us. My daughter, her two daughters, and me, and my other daughter. My granddaughter will be three next month, on the third, and the other baby is a year and three months, and my daughter is pregnant. My daughter gets SNAP. It helps. But it’s barely enough for us. That’s why we’re here. The program helps us. It is very, very, very helpful. Keep doing it because it empowers people who don’t have many resources, and it benefits us. People used to be able to go to the 99 Cents Store and get things very cheap. But now, there’s no 99 Cents Store; people come here to get help from the program. It helps us.“

“I just retired from the DMV. I was working for 15 years, almost, and I used to work for the Superior Court. I’ve had really good jobs, but now I can’t even survive. I’m barely making it. I have a good retirement and my Social Security. I’m 67. But when you pay over $3,800 just for your rent, you don’t have money, and I have a car payment and insurance. It’s over $4,000. It’s really, really hard. Right now, I have $4.00 in my checking account. And I have to go get medication. I don’t have money for food. I get food bank. Hopefully, it keeps coming. We get good stuff, we get milk, eggs. But it’s getting to be less and less and less and more and more people.”

“I’m a veteran, and my husband is also a veteran. I try to help other veterans. Most of the church is veterans, former marines, navy, what have you, but mainly marines. So what I do is I keep what I need, and what I don’t need, then I help out the other veterans in the church. So they don’t have to worry about food. Inflation is ridiculous. And it got even worse since COVID hit. It gets so expensive to buy food. I ain’t going to be able to afford food, with everything else going up. I appreciate them taking the time to donate the food. I appreciate the time that volunteers take to come out and help distribute the food. Because they make it easy for us to get what we need and then keep on moving and make our life better.”
