Special Distributions Bring Joy to Families This Thanksgiving
Over the past two weeks, Feeding San Diego teamed up with local Assemblymembers Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher and Shirley Weber to help provide special Thanksgiving food for families facing hunger in San Diego.
Families who attended these events received turkeys, along with fresh produce: potatoes, carrots, zucchini, strawberries, onions, and pears. The distributions were set up like a farmers market so families could browse and choose whichever produce they needed for their families.
Feeding San Diego is focused on making sure that not only do families have access to healthy food, but can also learn about healthy living and nutritious food. At these specific distribution events, resource tables also provided information for families regarding health and human services, health care, San Diego water and electric and immigration.
Feeding San Diego hosted a CalFresh table to provide information on eligibility and how it works. Along with the CalFresh table, Feeding San Diego also held an “Eat the Rainbow” activity for children to teach them the importance of eating a variety of fruits and vegetables to get the necessary vitamins and nutrients they need to grow and be healthy.
These wonderful community events help bring healthy food and information to families facing hunger and help spread joy during the holiday season.
