San Diego Gives: Join the Give Local Movement
San Diego Gives is all about giving locally. Since its founding in 2021, this event has brought together hundreds of local nonprofits for a 24-hour day of giving on the first Thursday in September. But beyond fundraising, San Diego Gives is about connection. This campaign connects San Diegans to local causes and local nonprofits. At Feeding San Diego, we understand the power of collective action and are proud to participate each year in this exciting day of giving.

The Power of Collective Action
Since 2021, San Diego Gives has grown to become a champion of local giving. Last year’s day of giving proved how powerful a community acting together can be. In 2023, 338 nonprofits participated. During the 24-hour campaign, over 4,290 donors raised $1,355,226! All funds raised remained in San Diego, supporting local nonprofits as they support the community.
How San Diego Gives Works
There are two ways to participate in San Diego Gives. One is to donate directly to the nonprofit you wish to support on their San Diego Gives donation pages. The other is to donate to the “Love Them All” Fund, which will be distributed equally to all participating organizations. Throughout the 24-hour period, many sponsors offer to match donations provided.
Why Give on One Day
You may be wondering: why should I give on this one day? And that’s a great question. Like all the other amazing nonprofits in our community, Feeding San Diego needs support year-round. No one day’s better to give than another. However, there are a few benefits to giving on the first Thursday in September:
- You get to join the Give Local Movement.
- You can inspire others to donate by sharing your story of philanthropy on social media.
- Every dollar donated to Feeding San Diego up to $15,000 will be matched by California Bank & Trust.
For one day only, you can join a movement AND make double the impact on your community. We think that’s a pretty good deal! But if you miss the giving window, don’t worry. Giving local is a great idea all year long.

Feeding San Diego is proud of our connections within the community. We work with over 300 local charities, schools, faith communities, meal sites, and food pantries, as well as hundreds of food donors, to provide healthy food to San Diegans experiencing hunger. Our food rescue and distribution model shows the power of working together. We’re proud to participate in San Diego Gives, a day of giving that shows the power of our community of philanthropists.
