Local Celebrities Lend A Helping Hand

Hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation when school food programs do.  Summer months put a burden on families who rely on these school programs to help provide food. Feeding San Diego puts together programs to try and lift the weight off the shoulders of children and families who are food-insecure. We rely on volunteers to help make these programs happen by providing their time and energy.

Two well-known volunteers that helped fight hunger this summer were Heather Lake of Fox 5 News and Steve Weatherford, former player of the New York Giants.

They both assisted in distributing ready to eat meals at Vista Library in early August as part of the Summer Food Service Program. Steve brought along his family as well to help for the afternoon. The children loved hanging out and taking pictures with Heather and Steve while filling their stomachs with a nutritious meal.

Every hand, big or small goes a long way. Thank you to Heather and Steve for their hard work and donated time this month.
