Grant funds support local hunger-relief response efforts throughout San Diego County

SAN DIEGO (October 6, 2020) — Host Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest lodging real estate investment trust, has awarded Feeding San Diego grant funds to support its COVID-19 response efforts as part of its partnership with Feeding America in support of food banks across the country. Host Hotels & Resorts owns iconic San Diego properties including Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa, Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego and Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina.

“Feeding San Diego relies on the generosity of our corporate partners to help us end hunger. We are incredibly thankful for the grant from Host Hotels & Resorts to continue our critical work during the pandemic,” said Gavon Morris, Chief Philanthropy Officer of Feeding San Diego. “San Diego is known for its hospitality — our community has truly come together to help serve those in need and alleviate the worsening hunger crisis.”

“We are proud to be able to support the communities in which we live and work and where our hotels are located, especially during this challenging and unprecedented time,” said Joanne Hamilton, Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Corporate Responsibility. “We are grateful for the efforts of Feeding San Diego to provide meals to those who need them most.”

Grant funds will support Feeding San Diego and its ongoing COVID-19 emergency response, which includes hundreds of drive-through distribution sites across San Diego County. Hunger in the county has increased by an estimated 50 percent due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of people need food assistance, with approximately 40 percent of people facing hunger for the first time.
