Here are a few key messages to help you get started with your outreach. They’re also great to share with your friends and family if they ever ask you what Feeding San Diego does for the community.
- Feeding San Diego protects people and the planet by rescuing surplus food and distributing it to those in need. Their mission is to end hunger through food rescue.
- From July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, Feeding San Diego provided over 29 million meals to people facing hunger in San Diego County.
- 90% of the food Feeding San Diego distributes is high-quality food rescued before it goes to waste.
- Every $1 dollar donated provides two meals for San Diegans facing hunger.
- Feeding San Diego is the only member of the Feeding America network of hunger-relief organizations in the San Diego region.
- Feeding San Diego supports families, kids, seniors, military families, college students, and more demographics who face hunger.
- Food is a basic human right. No one should have to choose between buying groceries or paying for medical bills, transportation, or childcare.

Your closest contacts are the most likely to donate! Studies show people are more likely to give the closer you are to your goal. When your outer circles see progress toward your goal, they will be more likely to give!
We recommend doing the following:
- Email closest contacts (family members and close friends). Wait a day or two.
- Email close contacts (your entire friend circle). Wait another day or two.
- Send to as many contacts as you feel comfortable with (co-workers, friends of friends, your entire address book, etc.)
- Share your progress updates with your network: people are more likely to give the closer you are to your goal.
- Tag us! Tag @feedingsandiego in your posts for added visibility. Don’t forget to follow @feedingsandiego for stories of impact that you can share with your network, too!
