Feeding San Diego Partnering with Veterans United Home Loans This Veterans Day to Raise Critical Funds

The nation’s #1 VA purchase lender has pledged $20,000 dollars in support of Feeding San Diego’s Feeding Heroes program, which will be used for a fundraising match

Feeding San Diego, the county’s leading hunger-relief and food-rescue organization, is raising funds for its Feeding Heroes program, which serves military families and veterans, with the help of Veterans United Home Loans. In partnership, the two organizations are working to rally the community and create awareness of the problem of military hunger. San Diego County is home to one of the largest concentrations of veterans and military personnel in the world. Feeding San Diego’s Feeding Heroes program provides nutritious meals at no cost to military families and veterans through targeted partnerships with non-profits that serve this population.

“As we see in civilian society, economically challenged families are the ones who struggle. The difference with military hunger is the perception that everyone is taken care of in the military. While our service members are given more than their civilian counterparts, it’s still insufficient, especially with high inflation,” said Bob Kamensky, Chief Strategy Officer of Feeding San Diego. “Many factors contribute to food insecurity for active-duty families, including lower rank, family size, and duty location. The confluence of cost vs. affordability drives military families to make hard decisions that affect the food they purchase, among other tough choices.”

This Veterans Day, the public can double its donations to Feeding San Diego thanks to a generous fundraising match made possible by Veterans United Home Loans. On Friday, November 11, all donations made to Feeding San Diego will be doubled up to $20,000. In addition, the Veterans United team will be donating time to complete a service project for Feeding San Diego at The Veterans Museum in Balboa Park, working to package holiday food boxes that will be distributed to San Diegans facing hunger.

Currently, Veterans United is traveling from coast to coast on its #ThanksToVeterans tour. The company is celebrating veteran camaraderie, community service, and the countless ways veterans continue to serve and strengthen our neighborhoods. The final stop on their tour is at The Veterans Museum at Balboa Park on November 11, 2022. The public is invited to join the day of service by registering here.

“All of us at Veterans United are very excited to be coming to San Diego, where I called home for more than nine years as part of my service,” said Rick West, 12th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy and Military Advisor to Veterans United Home Loans. “San Diego is a big military town, and any time I personally have an opportunity to go back and support our service men and women, it’s a no-brainer for me. Veterans United’s partnership with Feeding San Diego is really exciting and we’re looking forward to making a lasting impact on their ability to serve the community.”

Feeding San Diego’s Feeding Heroes program involves a network of partners that serve the military community to ensure they have the food they need. Through this program, the organization provides food to partner agencies, schools, and mobile pantries.
