The holiday season is here again. For San Diegans, this year has been another plagued with high food and gas prices. At Feeding San Diego, we recognize that the holidays are a stressful time for many of us, but for those facing hunger, it’s especially complicated. That’s why Feeding San Diego organized a series of [...]
Feeding San Diego is reflecting on how your support helps us plan for all of the work we do. Food in landfills produces methane gas, a leading contributor to climate change. But around 72% of the food Feeding San Diego distributes is rescued. That means it’s surplus edible food donated by food donors. As we [...]
This month, Feeding San Diego’s partnership team is recognizing Food for Life, a small-scale grocery distribution led by founders Mike and Melissa Ottolini under the Life Christian Church of Vista. Started last July, Food for Life now serves nearly 200 families each week. Their efforts demonstrate the power of a nutritious meal and the commitment [...]
During Military Appreciation Month, we reflect on the importance of supporting military families and veterans. The sad reality is that within the military, many families go hungry. According to Feeding America, nearly a quarter (24%) of active-duty service members were food insecure in 2020. Here in San Diego County, that includes many of the 5,000 [...]

Now, because of Congressional action, they’re ending. CalFresh recipients will no longer receive pandemic-era boosts after this month’s [...]
Hispanic Heritage Month, also referred to as Latinx Heritage Month, is a time to celebrate the culture and contributions of our Hispanic and Latinx neighbors. In San Diego, over 30 percent of the population identifies as Hispanic or Latino, according to the 2020 US Census. As a result, our city benefits from the vibrant infusion [...]
It’s an early August morning in Alpine, CA. There is only so much time until the sun is fully shining and the heat really kicks in. A small crowd gathers in the shade of the parking lot that serves as Alpine Mobile Pantry to pick up no-cost food. Feeding San Diego’s bright orange truck, which [...]
This month is National Make-a-Will Month—but August is more than just about making your will. It’s about joining a movement that connects every person with the resources they need to secure their future. Just as Feeding San Diego is dedicated to connecting every person facing hunger with nutritious meals. At Feeding San Diego, we [...]
