Building Generational Wealth for Our Cause and Community This National Estate Planning Awareness Week

Feeding San Diego is reflecting on how your support helps us plan for all of the work we do. Food in landfills produces methane gas, a leading contributor to climate change. But around 72% of the food Feeding San Diego distributes is rescued. That means it’s surplus edible food donated by food donors. As we work together to protect people and the planet, we want to ensure our entire community can keep one another safe. That’s why we invite you to participate in National Estate Planning Awareness Week (NEPAW) from October 16 to 22.

Why It Matters

No matter where you may be on your life path, it’s a pivotal moment to secure your future, protect your loved ones, and plan for the distribution of all of your assets—ranging from your home and car to treasured family photo albums and heirlooms.

Building generational wealth for our families, communities, and the causes we care about, including tackling food insecurity, should be accessible to all. Feeding San Diego has partnered with FreeWill because their online tool helps you make or update your will in just 20 minutes at no cost.

FreeWill Makes It Easy

Using FreeWill, you can also include a gift to Feeding San Diego in your will to help provide nutritious meals to people facing hunger—which means that kids succeed in schools, families stay in their homes, heroes serve their country without worrying about their families back home, and seniors retire with dignity—for generations to come.

Your legacy holds the power to profoundly impact various segments of our community. It can sustain vital programs like the School Pantry and Backpack programs, ensuring children and their families from Title I schools have access to essential meals, even beyond the school environment.

Creating Lasting Impact

In the face of high inflation, your compassionate giving can offer relief for seniors on fixed incomes, eliminating the choice between purchasing food and paying other bills. Moreover, for the members of our military community, especially the junior enlisted active duty with families, your legacy can help alleviate the burden of food insecurity.

Above all, please take a moment to care for all you love this National Estate Planning Awareness Week, and together, let’s build a hunger-free and healthy San Diego.
