Our Feeding Kids Program Team attended the Out-of-School Time Nutrition Summit in Upland, California on January 24.

The summit was hosted by the California Summer Meal Coalition to provide networking and learning opportunities as well as discuss ideas on how to provide kids and families with food and resources when kids who are out of school, missing much needed free and reduced priced meals.  The summit also hosted a panel sharing innovative ways to meet the needs of after school and summer programs with the Superintendent of San Ysidro’s nutrition program and with the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction and Youth Development. While at this summit, the FSD team was able to connect with USDA Rural Development, which provides grants to help improve the economy and quality of life for rural Californians.  FSD distributes food to many of San Diego County’s rural communities.
