Sherman Heights Community Center logoThe Sherman Heights Community Center was founded in 1984. It serves about 20,000 community members annually through several community engagement activities year-round.

Enhancing Community Services

Sherman Heights began its partnership with Feeding San Diego in April 2022. They have provided a food distribution program for two decades. Now, through this partnership, they also serve seniors on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Their residents appreciate the access to fresh produce they receive twice a month.

The center also participates in Food Rescue. They receive donations from BrightSide Produce, a donor who distributes fresh fruits and vegetables to small food stores in underserved communities. After they have made all their deliveries, they donate any excess produce to Sherman Heights every week.

Dedication to Excellence

Most recently, Sherman Heights was selected as the Nonprofit of the Year by District 80 Assembly Member David Alvarez. The award recognized its dedication to fostering community through education, cultural enrichment, health promotion, and personal development.

Although they have a small supporting staff, they could not continue to do the work for the community without the continuous dedication from their awesome and outgoing fleet of volunteers and local partners. Like center staff, the volunteers are the heart and soul of the community.

Their biggest event of the year is Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead. During a week-long event, they preserve and educate the community about this beloved annual holiday in Latine culture.

Please join us in celebrating Sherman Heights Community Center for its dedication to supporting and enriching the community through health promotion and other fantastic programming.
