Feeding San Diego Invites the Legal Community to Participate in This Year’s Food from the Bar Fundraiser at a Critical Time to Support Local Non-Profits
The competition kicks off June 1 to raise funds needed to expand Feeding San Diego’s School Pantry Program
This summer, legal professionals can support critical hunger-relief programs by participating in Feeding San Diego’s Food from the Bar competition. The annual campaign for legal professionals is now in its 13th year, allowing the local legal community to give back while engaging in some friendly competition. During the month-long campaign, legal teams compete to raise funds, volunteer, and host food drives for Feeding San Diego’s hunger-relief and food rescue programs that support children facing hunger. The campaign kicks off on June 1st, and Feeding San Diego is seeking additional participants to commit to hitting the fundraising goal of $100,000. A team can be a law firm, insurance company, legal staffing agency, legal association, or even an individual legal professional.
“As legal professionals, we lead purposefully—on behalf of clients and our community. This is our chance to tackle child hunger head-on and ensure justice for children facing hunger in our community. With nearly 100,000 children in San Diego facing food insecurity, Food from the Bar will help raise the funds needed to expand Feeding San Diego’s School Pantry Program and get fresh food to families who need it most,” said Brandon Randolph, regional director of administration at Pillsbury and immediate past president of the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators. “Now is the time to raise funds, roll up our sleeves, and show what real advocacy looks like beyond the bench and the boardroom.”
This year, the Food from the Bar campaign supports Feeding San Diego’s School Pantry Program, which operates year-round to provide access to nutritious food at Title I schools across the county. With funding from individuals, corporations, and foundations, Feeding San Diego continues to open new school pantries to address the lack of basic needs for students in K-12 schools across the county. The program currently provides nutritious groceries to families once or twice a month at 62 schools throughout the county, providing a convenient, trusted location for families to access food. However, 36 schools remain on a waitlist to participate in the program.
“During this challenging time for non-profits and with the need for food assistance high, San Diegans must step up to support missions they think are integral to our community. Food from the Bar is a fantastic opportunity for legal professionals to use their unique expertise to raise funds and awareness for Feeding San Diego,” said Ali Colbran, senior director of development at Feeding San Diego. “By partnering with local schools committed to improving the lives of students and their families, we can easily reach families that desperately need resources. However, the School Pantry Program is impossible without fundraising efforts like Food from the Bar. We are so grateful to the local legal community for rallying around this important cause.”
This year’s participating law firms include last year’s winner, Cooley, as well as Pillsbury and Greenberg Traurig. San Diego Public Defenders will also return this year.
