Hunger Action Heroes Unite! How to Get Involved with the Hunger Action Heroes During Comic-Con

Published On: July 16th, 2024By Categories: Campaigns2.8 min read

What started two years ago at Comic-Con 2022 has now gotten even cooler! Feeding San Diego’s Hunger Action Heroes, Hunger Halter and Demeter, now have their own comic book. And Feeding San Diego is excited to share the many ways you can get involved with the heroes this year at Comic-Con.

How It Started

Two years ago, Feeding San Diego unveiled the Hunger Action Heroes Art Contest. We asked local K-12 students from around the county to imagine what a hunger action hero would look like and send us their designs. And the community delivered! We received nearly 300 design submissions. More than 4,000 community members voted on the top ten entries.

In the end, the community chose Hunger Halter, created by Aiden Prior, and Demeter, by Sirenna Ascencio, as Feeding San Diego’s new heroes. Legendary costume designer Allan Lavigne, head of The Bronze Armory Studios, then brought Hunger Halter and Demeter to life! After joining the Comic-Con 2022 festivities, the heroes flew in again for special events around Comic-Con 2023.

Now, they’re taking to the page just in time for Comic-Con 2024. With the release of “Hunger Action Heroes Unite!,” you can see Hunger Halter and Demeter in action in this brand new comic. But there are other ways to get involved with the heroes during Comic-Con as well.

Where to Find the Hunger Action Heroes

During the week of Comic-Con, you can catch our heroes around San Diego.

First on Friday, July 26, from 5 to 6 p.m., Comic-Con attendees can join us for a panel where we’ll debut our comic book and discuss how to leverage the power of popular culture to inspire social good. You can learn more about the panel on the Comic-Con website.

Then on Saturday, July 27, from 1 to 3 p.m., come volunteer with our heroes at the Feeding San Diego distribution center. You’ll volunteer alongside Hunger Halter and Demeter to glean and sort food. Help us make the event extra special by coming in costume! All attendees will receive a copy of the comic book. Make sure to register to save your spot.

We’ll have other events coming up to celebrate the launch of the comic book. Keep an eye on the Hunger Action Heroes page on our site for the latest about the heroes.
