Summer Meals

Providing Healthy Meals for Kids

More than half of all K-12 students enrolled in San Diego County schools qualify for free or reduced-price meals. While California’s Universal Meals Program ensures all students have access to nutritious meals at school regardless of family income, many families struggle to ensure that there is enough food at home for their growing kids–that includes nights, weekends, and the summer months. Feeding San Diego’s summer meal programs help fill the gap for families in need.

During the summer, various locations, including after-school programs, libraries, and rec centers, host these meal distributions.

Summer Meals

When school closes for the summer, many students lose access to the nutritious food they need to thrive. Instead of enjoying summer fun, families face tighter budgets without school meals to sustain them.

Our summer meals program helps meet the needs of kids and families during summer vacation. As part of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), Feeding San Diego provides breakfast, lunch, and snack as meal options to youth ages 18 and under.

Stories from Our Youth Meals Sites

I like coming here for the food. I always know there’s going to be good food and it makes me happy. The chicken wraps are really good. I really appreciate non-profit organizations and the people who help them because without them, the program wouldn’t start and the food wouldn’t come in, kids wouldn’t be as fueled or have energy to play or do their homework.
