FEEDING SAN DIEGO RECEIVES $120,000 GIFT FROM CALPINE IN WAKE OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Funds will support Feeding San Diego’s increased hunger-relief services throughout San Diego County

SAN DIEGO (June 16, 2020) — Feeding San Diego received a gift of $120,000 from Calpine (calpine.com), a longtime California energy generator and provider of energy services, to help end hunger in San Diego County during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As an organization providing critical services in a community where Calpine employees and customers live and work, the funds will help Feeding San Diego provide much-needed meals to children, families and seniors in need of food assistance.

“Our community hunger relief organizations provide a critical lifeline to many Californians, especially those who are the most vulnerable,” said Alex Makler, Senior Vice President of the West Region at Calpine. “Unfortunately, these organizations are seeing record demand due to the innumerable, devastating impacts related to COVID-19. Calpine and our employees are proud to expand our support for hunger relief organizations to help those that are food insecure.”

Calpine’s gift to Feeding San Diego is part of a larger donation of over $500,000 to local hunger relief and nonprofit organizations across the state of California in response to the economic downturn caused by the pandemic.

“Currently, one in six San Diegans are facing hunger due to COVID-19 and Feeding San Diego has significantly expanded services to address the need for food assistance throughout the county. Feeding San Diego is incredibly grateful to Calpine for their generous gift,” said Gavon Morris, Chief Development and Marketing Officer of Feeding San Diego. “Their contribution will play a significant role in helping us sustain our critical work throughout the crisis.”
