Hunger Action Day 2017: Make Our Voices Heard in Sacramento!
Advocate for Change. Champion Hunger-Relief.

In California, over 5 million people face food insecurity. Hunger affects the well-being of everyone in our communities. We need you to tell your story about how hunger affects your life and our communities.

Join Feeding San Diego, the California Hunger Action Coalition and Californians from all over the state as we gather to speak to state representatives about important legislation affecting hunger in our communities. Visit legislators, meet advocates and speak as a representative of San Diegans struggling with food insecurity. We will be departing from Feeding San Diego at 8:00AM on Tuesday, May 23rd and returning around midnight on May 24th.

Considerations:
- Training on legislation and speaking with legislators will be provided.
- Transportation will be via a charter bus and we plan to fill all seats.
- This trip includes some physical considerations including the ability to: sit for long periods of time on a bus, walk a substantial amount once in Sacramento, and stand around waiting for meetings or rallies to begin. Please keep this in mind when committing to this event and if you feel that this will be limiting to your experience at all, consider allowing someone else to attend in your place as spaces are limited.

Contribution:
Feeding San Diego is underwriting most of the costs of the HAD trip; however participation is $20 per attendee to help off-set the additional costs of the trip. Payment will be collected upon your acceptance to attend the trip, and will need to be paid in advance (see below). Unlike previous years, meals on the way up and back from Sacramento will not be covered, so please plan accordingly.

If the cost of attendance is a financial burden that would prevent you from attending, please contact Nicky Riordan about your options at nriordan@feedingsandiego.org.

Transportation, some meals (dinner on the 23rd, breakfast and lunch on the 24th and some snacks for the bus), lodging, meeting(s) with state legislators, training materials and the chance to influence important laws are all included. Shirts will not be provided this year.

Registration:
This form should be considered as an interest form, NOT a confirmation of attendance. As spaces are limited, we will be reviewing interest to ensure that a wide variety of constituents are represented.

We will reach out to you to confirm attendance the week of April 24th, and the non-refundable payment is due no later than May 5th. If payment is not received by May 5th, your slot will be opened to the next person on the waiting list. If you are unable to attend after confirmation and payment, you can transfer your slot to someone else, but your payment will not be refunded.

Registration interest submission deadline: Friday April 7, 2017

We will be confirming details and providing important updates leading up to the event. Please let us know the best way to get a hold of you.
Have you attended HAD with FSD previously? *
Would you like to be considered to be a group leader? (We recommend this for participants who have been to HAD before) *
Group leaders will be expected to: attend a short training before the trip, be a point of contact for your group day-of, take more ownership of the legislation and talking points to help guide your group, and take pictures of your groups with legislators when possible. This is a great opportunity, and we will do all we can to support you in this role, if you are interested.
Please indicate anyone you would like to share a room with. (Note: This does NOT count as their registration, they must fill out this form separately to be considered for the trip)
The rooms have 2 beds and there will be 2 people per room, unless you are a family.
