Meet the Artists

Feeding San Diego Hunger Action Hero Art Contest 1st place winner, Aiden Prior with his hero, Hunger Halter Feeding San Diego and Comic-Con Museum Hunger Action Hero Art Contest 1st place winner, Aiden Prior with his hero, Hunger Halter

Aiden Prior is 14 years old and a freshman at La Costa Canyon High School in Carlsbad. He is a storyteller and writer passionate about comics. As an individual with autism, Aiden has identified with superheroes from a young age because they remind him of his inner strength. Through all his challenges and struggles, he finds the strength to persevere by looking to superheroes. At times, his family has struggled with food insecurity, so it is important to him to help bring awareness of the issue to his community. He is very close to his mother Brittany, who encouraged him to apply for the Hunger Action Hero Art Contest. Together they give back to the community, including feeding unhoused neighbors in their community.

Feeding San Diego and Comic-Con Museum Hunger Action Hero Art Contest 2nd place winner, Sirenna Ascencio

Sirenna Ascencio is 17 years old and a freshman at Southwestern Community College in Otay Lakes. Sirenna has been drawing since she was in elementary school. She decided to enter the contest to raise awareness through her drawings, and was compelled by the idea of bringing attention to the issue of hunger. She was inspired to create her character so she could reach out to youth to take action in solving world hunger, whether it be creating awareness like she did through her artwork or volunteering with a local hunger-relief organization.

Each of the top three winners won a trip to Comic-Con Museum’s Makers Lab for their class or homeroom, in addition to other exciting prizes.
