“It has been our privilege to be long-time monthly donors to Feeding San Diego as well as including them as benefactors in our trust. Food insecurity is a factor in the lives of so many people in our community. It was made even worse by COVID-19. We chose Feeding San Diego because they can reach so many people with fresh, nutritious food assistance in a very cost-effective manner while also greatly reducing food waste in San Diego. To fully appreciate this operation, you must get a tour of their warehouse. The magnitude of this operation is truly staggering. We are increasing our monthly pledge to help. We hope others can do likewise.”

“We donate to both Feeding America and Feeding San Diego because we know they will do the most with every dollar they receive and that they will get the food to where it is needed.

Our interest in food insecurity dates back to when we attended college in Iowa in the 1970s. Chris was mentoring children in the Big Brother program. He realized the children could not focus because they were hungry and how important it is to have that basic need met so that all children can be on a level playing field in life. We have strongly supported school breakfast and lunch programs ever since. They are vitally important to the well-being and education of a substantial percentage of children in our communities.

We have relied on automatic monthly donations for years because we want Feeding San Diego to know they can count on our support. Our consistent commitment to Feeding San Diego facilitates it to plan and focus the energy of their volunteers on new donors instead of asking for our support. We also donate monthly because while donations to food drives and food banks are at their highest during the holidays, the need for hunger relief in our communities is year-round.”
