Increasing Distribution of Fresh Produce

To reduce the risk and impact of chronic diseases and health issues linked to hunger, FSD focuses on nutrition and increasing access to fresh produce. During the first quarter of FY 16-17, Feeding San Diego brought in more than 2.2 million pounds of fresh produce to be distributed to the nearly half a million San Diegans struggling with hunger. This is a 54 percent increase in the amount of produce we distributed in the first quarter of FY 15-16.

We have also seen a steady increase in donations from our partnerships with local and new grocery chains – more than 11 percent than last year! Partnerships like these allow us to access hard to find but highly nutritious products such as meat, eggs, and dairy.
