2016-2017 Annual Report

From The Board Chair

Gwendolyn Meyer

Dear Friends,

This has been our strongest year yet in fighting hunger in San Diego. We are grateful to the caring organizations and individuals who recognize the seriousness of the life situations that impact too many of our fellow San Diegans. When one out of every eight people—and one out of every six children—experiences struggles with hunger, our collective response is vital. Your generous gifts of time, food, funds, and voice this year made it possible for us to provide more than 25 million meals to children, families, and seniors facing hunger.

Such a meaningful response to the need encourages us to be even bolder. As we move forward, Feeding San Diego will continue to innovate and improve efficiencies that will allow us to stretch resources even further. Our goals consistently reflect our commitment to stewardship of precious food and dollar resources, and to make sure that each person who receives our food and services feels valued and respected and embraced by their communities.

Feeding San Diego was founded because like-minded people refused to stand by and watch their neighbors suffer in the face of a devastating natural disaster. We believe our community still feels that urgency to address the chronic issue of food insecurity. You have demonstrated that commitment, and we thank you for everything you have done and will do to help us solve hunger.

With gratitude,

Gwendolyn Sontheim
