Dear Friends,

Thank you for another year of serving our community together. The individuals and organizations you will find in this report are the heart of Feeding America San Diego, and it is our honor to partner with each one. Their gifts of time, food, funds and voice make it possible for us to accomplish the great task ahead of us—ending hunger.

In response to the immense need we see each and every day at distributions throughout San Diego County, FASD grew rapidly from distributing 3 million pounds of food in 2007 to 25 million pounds this year. While we continue to increase the amount of meals we distribute, many of this year’s goals—and accomplishments—were focused on developing the capacity of our network and cultivating strategic partnerships that will allow us to accomplish even more in the years ahead.

FASD is dedicated to providing comprehensive strategies that increase food security for our clients and resources that empower our network of distribution partners.
The health of our clients remains central to our mission.

Increasingly, our distributions offer nutritious food, 50 percent of which is fresh produce, paired with nutrition education and resources that help build self-sufficiency.

We are engaging the community in fresh, innovative ways that allow us to give voice to the struggle faced by 1 in 6 San Diegans who are food insecure. Sharing their stories is a privilege—one that never fails to inspire staff members, interns, donors, advocates and volunteers to join in the fight against hunger.

As we look to the future, FASD is poised to improve the health of our community through increased access to nutritious foods, partnerships that connect food assistance with health care, and sustainable operations across the entire organization.

We eagerly press on toward these goals. We believe, with your support, we can create a hunger-free and healthy San Diego.

With gratitude,
Karen Haren

How We Work

Feeding America San Diego relies on community support from individuals, corporations, local farmers, packers, manufacturers and grocery stores to fund and supply our hunger-relief initiatives.

With a high-level of operational efficiency and fiscal responsibility, we maximize the return on every donor’s dollar. 94% of any financial gift directly funds our critical programs.
Through our partnership with Feeding America national, we have access to more than two billion pounds of contributed food. Product is also sourced locally, which allows us to turn every dollar donated into six meals.
Over 10,000 volunteers annually help sort, clean, bag and box food before it is distributed throughout the community.
Food is distributed to soup kitchens, pantries, shelters and schools through hunger-relief programs, providing meals to 59,000 children, seniors and families each week.

CLOSE TO HOME

Clients and partners share how Feeding America San Diego is impacting their lives and our community. The problem is close to home. So is the solution.
